How carpet and flooring pricing works
Free written estimates. What is in the quote, what moves the number, and how to keep it down.
Every DRL job starts with a free estimate, in writing, after we have seen the room. Below is how each service is priced so the number makes sense when you get it. Where we can publish typical ranges, they appear under the service; where a job depends too much on the house, we tell you why.
Carpet installation cost
A carpet quote covers the carpet, the pad, removal and disposal of the old floor, installation by DRL crews, transitions, and cleanup. It is priced from measured square yards, not a guess from the room dimensions you give us over the phone.

- Carpet grade and fiber: nylon and SmartStrand cost more than polyester and olefin but last longer in busy rooms
- Pad: a thicker or moisture-barrier pad adds a little per yard and changes how the carpet feels and wears
- Stairs: each stair is hand-fitted, so stair runs are priced per step rather than per yard
- Removal: tearing out and hauling away old carpet and pad, or old hardwood staples on stairs
- Layout: seams, closets, and odd angles affect how much carpet the room actually needs
- Furniture: moving large pieces within the room is quoted if you want the crew to do it
Ways to keep it down
Choose a mid-grade nylon for bedrooms rather than the premium line, keep the pad standard in low-traffic rooms, and clear small items yourself before the crew arrives.
Hardwood, vinyl plank, and laminate installation cost
Hard-surface quotes cover the flooring, underlayment, subfloor prep, installation, transitions, thresholds, and trim. Vinyl plank and laminate are generally the least expensive to install; hardwood costs more in both material and labor because of acclimation, nailing or gluing, and finishing details.

- Material: laminate and standard vinyl plank at the low end, rigid core and engineered hardwood in the middle, solid hardwood at the top
- Subfloor prep: leveling compound, moisture testing, or plywood repair when the old floor comes up
- Tear-out: removing tile or glued-down vinyl takes far longer than lifting carpet
- Room count and layout: many small rooms and closets cost more per square foot than one open space
- Trim: new baseboard or shoe molding, and reinstalling toilets and appliances in kitchens and baths
Ways to keep it down
Waterproof vinyl plank gives most of the look of hardwood at a lower installed cost and goes into kitchens, baths, and basements where hardwood should not. Floating floors that can go over a sound existing floor skip the tear-out.
Carpet cleaning cost
Carpet cleaning is priced by the area cleaned, usually per room or per square foot for large open spaces, with pet treatment, deodorizing, and stain work quoted on top when needed. The technician confirms the price on arrival before starting, and several reviewers note the bill matched what they were told.

- Soil level and stains: heavily soiled or pet-affected carpet needs pre-treatment and more passes
- Add-ons: upholstery pieces, area rugs, tile and grout, or a re-stretch done in the same visit

Ways to keep it down
Bundle the sectional and an area rug into the same appointment, and clean on a regular schedule so each visit is lighter. Vacuum before we arrive.
Upholstery cleaning cost
Upholstery is priced per piece: sofa, sectional (by number of seats), loveseat, chair, ottoman, dining chair. Fabric type and condition can change the method and the price, so tell us what you have when booking.

- Fabric: microfiber and most synthetics are straightforward; delicate or natural fabrics may need low-moisture cleaning

Area rug cleaning cost
Rugs are priced by size and fiber. Wool and specialty rugs cost more than synthetics because they need dye testing and gentler handling. Drop-off at any showroom is free; pickup and delivery is quoted by distance.

Ways to keep it down
Drop the rug at the Woonsocket, North Attleborough, or Warwick showroom yourself to skip the pickup charge.
Carpet binding cost
Binding is priced per linear foot of edge, so a 6 by 9 rug is priced on its 30 feet of perimeter. Cutting to size is included; intricate shapes with many cuts take longer and are quoted accordingly.

Ways to keep it down
Use a remnant or the offcut from your own installation. A custom-bound rug from remnant carpet costs a fraction of a designer rug in the same size.
Carpet and floor repair cost
Repairs are quoted per job after a look at the damage, usually far less than replacing the floor. A re-stretch of one room, a patch, or a seam repair is typically a single short visit.

Ways to keep it down
Send a photo first so we can tell you whether a repair makes sense before anyone drives out. Combine the repair with a cleaning.
Tile and grout cleaning cost
Tile cleaning is priced by square footage, with optional grout sealing quoted on top. Sealing is worth it if you want the grout to stay clean between visits.

Pricing FAQs
Do you charge for estimates?
No. On-site estimates are free anywhere in our Rhode Island and Massachusetts service area, and we bring samples to your home for flooring jobs.
Is the quoted price the final price?
Yes. Quotes are written and itemized. If something unexpected turns up under an old floor, the crew stops and talks to you before doing extra work; nothing is added to the bill without your say-so.
Can you give me a price over the phone?
For cleaning, yes, based on the rooms and pieces you describe, confirmed on arrival. For installation, we measure first; a phone number based on your own room dimensions is usually wrong by a few yards and we would rather be accurate.
Do you price-match big box stores?
Bring us the quote and we will walk through it with you. Big-box installation prices often exclude pad, removal, stairs, and transitions that our quotes include, so the comparison is rarely apples to apples.
How do I pay?
Ask the showroom about accepted payment methods and deposit requirements when you approve the quote.
